I have an urget & uncontrolled urge to get a plasma cutter to cut mild steel into cute figures of cowboys, bison, lions & tigers. I do some mig welding & some introductory blacksmithing of trinkits sold in gift shops. What should I look for in a plasma cutter? I know a fellow who has his hooked to a computer that cuts stuff out of computer images, but that's gotta be expensive ????? ?

A friend of mine runs a small fabrication shop at his home and he makes/repairs mine equipment. He tried a plasma cutter for a few days and took it back. It seems that the tungsten carbide rod used in this particular model required replacing every few feet of cutting. At about $6-8 each and only cutting about 10-20 feet of cut per rod, he decided that a plasma cutter was not economical.

Bob,
I, like you are also interested in a Plasma Cutter. I know nothing about them, however, have been surfing for info. I'm sure the feedback U receive will also be helpful to me.

I came across a web site that was helpful to me; www.usaweld.com . Phone: 1-800-USA-WELD, E-mail: [email protected].

They handel HTP brand and sent me a catalog with lots of helpful information.

I do know is there is a $300 difference between their HTP Micro Cut 380 and a the Miller Spectrum 375 Cut Mate.

Anyone else out there know anything about HTP products?

Lots O luck
