How do you remove internal lock rings, the ones that do not have holes? I finally found a set of external lock ring pliers at McMaster Carr but need a set for removing internal lock rings.

Check Mac tools. I bought a set that has about 15 different size snap ring pliers for both internal and external, and also the ones with the holes and the ones without. I think it was almost $250, but I now have every size I will ever need. I imagine other tool makers have them as well, but this is the best, complete set I have seen. Just my 2 cents.

O.T.C. used to make a set of special snap-ring removal tools for this purpose, they consisted of a set of off set of "L" shaped lifters and a group of anvils to pry against. We also had a blind snap-ring groove like that to deal with on J.D. water pumps, and found that by drilling a small hole in the outer part of the groove, we could get a small ice-pick type tool under the ring to start it moving out of the groove enough to get the OTC tools under it to remove it. The only way i have found is 2 screwdrivers. One to hold the ring to keep it from spinning and the other to get under one end of the ring and work it out.If anyone has a better way let us know.

Most internal snap rings have either holes or the ends are shaped so you have a chance to get a screw driver under them.
