My father is restoreing a reel mower sharpener and he would like to put a new wheel on it if he can find one.

Looking for a 6 in. dia X 3/4 to 1 in. width X 1 and 9/16 hole.

I have found all sorts of wheels with a 1.250 in. hole in them. He might consider a larger holed wheel as long as we can stay with the 6 in. dia..

thanks,
jon

My dad needs a 1.562" (1 and 9/16) hole for the grind stone not .562" (9/16).

Thanks for all the suggestions though.

Jon, All I see out there are 1.0" 1.25" 3.0" & 5" hole diameters. The ones with a 3.0" hole are available in 3/4 & 1" widths as you are looking for but the diameter is 10.0". If you are desperate you may try fabrcating a bushing so the 3.0" hole mates to your 1 and 9/16 shaft; get it spinning and dress it from 10" down to 6" (like I said, If you are desperate). The up side of using a 10.0" diameter wheel is that they are designed for cylindrical grinding machines and some really nice cutting materials are available. Let us know if you find a source for non standard bores. Slughammer

Hi Jon,
I don't have anything you need, but your post made me remember childhood days of tool sharpening. I have probably four or five old grindstones laying around. All are wet stones for slow turning by foot or hand. The small ones are ten inches approx with a square hole in them. The hole is about 2 x 2. These were set up on a bench or table with a wooden shaft and handle. They were turned by hand. I have a large (24 inch) stone mounted on a fairly recent (50 yr. old) metal frame designed to stand alone. My father purchased this when I was a child. It has a bicycle type seat on one side and foot petals. A funnel type cup was suspended over the stone and dripped water to keep the wheel wet. We sharpened our axes and hatchets with this one. just a memory. Good luck.

Last stone I bought at NAPA came with plastic bushings for various sized arbors. Don't recall if 9/16 was one of 'em, but it's worth a shot.

Hi Jon,

F14 has the idea. I've seen 5/8" arbors but if thats too loose then maybe a 3/4" with a 9/16" bushing. I would make a metal bushing tho. Home Depot, WW Graingers, with McMaster-Carr having a great selection on the net.
