Would like your comments on Hobart 135 or 175 mig welders. Would not be welding anything over 1/8" with this machine (Have Stick Welder). Will these machines weld cast alum. with corect wire and gas.

Not big enough for heavy welding of aluminum such as cast pieces, I had a 200 and it had trouble, went to a 250 and a spool gun, more money but it did the job. When welding aluminum warm it up with a torch, not too much though.

I've got a 135 which is just fine. Maybe I'll trade up to a more "adjustable" outfit one of these days, but the 135 is a real nice setup!

I have the Hobart 135. I had not electric welded before and am very impressed with what I can do with this. The flux cored wire is fine for general repair, but does not do well on sheet metal. I have the gas and solid core wire, but have not tried yet.

I went back and forth about 135 versus 175 and am glad I went with the smaller. The portability of not needing a 220 volt plug is great.

Yes, can work for AL, with sheath, wire, and
gas change...

But with that low of amperage, you will only be to do light AL...

I would think that the bigger welder would work better for aluminum.I had a small mig asnd it was nice, used 115 volts, welded steel good, but aluminum is a little different.I have a mig that runs on 220 now and it is a lot better for welding steel and it can weld aluminum with a different liner and argon gas.Mine is a HTP,it has copper wire in the transformer and runs real smooth.A friend of mine had a 175 Hobart,I like mine better. You might try them and see if they have a (demonstrator),they sell them for a lot less than a new one if they have any.I think their number is 1800usaweld.
