I was wondering if Deere has made a transmission gear ratio that could make any type of tractor run 50 mph or above. I was interestedin converting a 4 wheel tractor into a driving machine instead of a pulling machine. Does a speed transmission exist, compared to a pulling transmission? Email me as well as posting on here. my email is flyingsquirrelofthegreatforest@hotmail.com

click and paste, it's much easier.

Thanks, Parker

The old Co-op tractors used to be geared to go like mad.

Since you like to go fast, you might want to check out the historical tractor racing that was done with Allis Chalmers B series tractors. They used to circle track race them on wooden tracks, and one of them still hold the land speed record for farm tractors, somewhere up above 70 mph as I recall.

I took a Farmall M and put a Chev 350 and a truck 4 speed in it. On paper it will go upwards of 60 mph. NOT WITH MY TAIL IN THE SEAT. Made a whopping difference in the field too. Pulled a 5 bottom 16 JD plow. Worked ok going down hill, but was to light in the front to go up. Increased the fuel consumption too.

Have you had any transmission or differential problems? Seems like a lot of HP for bull gears designed for 35 HP. I like the concept though. Doc

Yeah, great idea. Why not drive it off of a cliff with a parachute, evil canevil?

Anyways, we got a big hill by our farm and I've had tractors up to around 30 to 40 mph going down and that is plenty fast! Mind you this is without anything behind. I think I got the A up to about 30 with the mower behind. And we have pulled tractors home around 30mph. Don't try this at home though.

The steering linkages are not designed well enough for that kind of speed. Plus the tires have a max rating of 25 mph - after that you travel at your own risk.

The Minnie that everyone is talking about is the UDLX or Model U, Deluxe or Comfortractor. It had a cab, heater, seating for three people, wind-up windows, wipers, speedometer with an odometer, cigarette lighter, shift on the fly five gear tranny, and styling good looks to boot! Speed was maxed at 40mph. No belt pulley or PTO, no hydralics either. Had about 40hp engine, ride was terrible because of no springs. About 150 of them made in the 1930's.

JCB makes what they call the Fastrack. A farm tractor that will do I think about 40 or 45 m.p.h. top speed. 32 or 36 speeds I think. All wheel drive and steer. A neat idea, but still a JCB.

Forget the name, but a there was a tractor built that was supposed to do 50 mph.

It was designed so that the farmer could use it as a tractor during the week and drive to town on the weekend.

Will have to dig out the tractor book somewhere.

It was a tractor made by Minneapolis Moline. I believe it came out in 1939. It had a complete cab, fenders, windshield wipers, lights, etc. It sold for about double the amount of a regular tractor, with comparable horsepower. It was not a really good seller, although it was a good idea in many ways.

Yep, only about 100 made if I remember right, and they only went about 35 MPH.

If we strap a wide plank across the hood and pull back on the steering wheel when it tops out, can we get it off the ground????? ?

I do, yes I know, I wouldn't think to try it with a three wheel tractor, obviously the tipping rate would be rediculous, but with four wheels . . . .
