any idea how to get out broken spark plug (only threads left in the head) on #4 cly on ford 302

Been there done that: NO FUN! If you try an ez out DON'T use a tapered one! As you turn a taperd ez out in the typically thin shell of a spark plug, it tends to expand the plug, and only makes it tighter. An ez out with straight flutes, if proper size may work for you - did for me. another possibility is a center punch with the point ground off at a 45 degree angle. With this tool you may be able to catch the edge of the plug and tap it inward enough to collapse it in upon itself and then remove it. Careful not to damage the threads, and it may be a good idea to run a thread tap through the threads before you put another plug in no matter how you get the old one out.

if threads is all you have left, the hack saw and small chisel is your only choice, be very careful not to saw too deep.

If you can wait a couple of days, spray the plug with a good penetrating oil. Do this a couple of times a day for 2 days then try an ez out. It should work.

drill a hole down through the center and go to ur auto parts store an buy a thing called a back out or and easy out.. it works great..

broke clear off, huh? get a hacksaw blade that fits thru the hole and slice the remnants of the plug to thin it . EXERCISE RESTRAINT!!! use an itty bitty chisel and peel itout. btw, pull when sawing; (chips).lol, roger

Smitty, I have ran into broke plugs like that 2 times. I guess I was lucky both were 4 cyl front wheel drive. But both were aluminum heads I had to pull grilles and radiators one was air conditioning and had to pull the condeser. Neither would come out with an e-z out. I didn't want to break one off in the head so I drilled both. I used a spark plug hole tap that you can buy at a auto parts store. I also used a stick magenet to clean the inside then filled the cyl. with oil and leaving the spark plug out turned the engine over and let it squirt out. I repeated this many times. I don't know if this was the right way to go about this but it worked for me. A fellow mechanic was the one that broke one off and he paniced and did not know what to do and offered me a nice torch with hose and reg. plus $20.00 so I jumped on it. But in your case with a V-8 and angle plugs I would recommend you grit your teeth and pull the head. It's even worse that it's in the back. Jonathan

If you have just threads and no center try taking
a file (mill bastard) and tap it lightly into the
hole with a hammer. Next turn it with an adjust-able wrench. Usually works if the threads are not
rusted in too much. Method works for broken off
pipe nipples too.
