I moved two storage buildings for a man with my rollback today. The deal was if I moved the buildings I got myself a nice 5 HP pressure washer. This unit was ready to go full of gas and all. Just add water. Well, I hooked the hose up and fired it up. Well, I don't think it would wash the crap off a dogs butt. I can let off the trigger and let it run and the gauge won't even come off the zero. Instead of causing problems between the man I got it from I would rather fix it and tell him how good it works. Anyway Were do I go from here??? Do they make a kit for these things??? Is it worth fixing??? The engine runs like a clock. Thanks in advance

This is how I prepare my washer for winter storage. 1st remove the washer wand from the spray hose and blow any water out of the hose. 2nd pull the trigger on the wand and shake access water out. The wand I keep in the house but if you choose to store it in an unheated area blow air into wand while pulling the trigger. 3rd buy a gallon of RV antifreeze and drill a 1/2” hole in the cap. Cut the end of an old garden hose (about 3-5 feet length) and press fit the cut end into the cap. Hook the other end of the hose up to the power washer and raise the bottle above the intake and start the motor and in about 10 seconds the antifreeze will be throughout the water pump and your unit will be winterized. I have used this process for three years and have not had any problems with my washer.

I ruined a washer trying to just empty all the water I could. I'll use RV antifreeze in the new one. My idea is to fill the input hose with antifreeze, screw in my RV blowout plug and use compressed air to push the antifreeze into the pump while it's running. This will be the first winter for this brainstorm, hope it works.

Thanks for responding. I got it working good. Last night when I hooked it up the quick coupler was leaking some. I took it off today and hooked the hose straight to the pump and it worked great. I did not think it could lose that much pressure from a leak that was not that big. Guess I was wrong. Now where is a good place to get a new quick connect? I am sure I will need it to freeze proof it right. I also would like some suggestions on freeze proofing my pressure washer. Thanks to all.. Jonathan

I'm not an expert on these. I use and maintain have an industrial rated machine. I don't think they make a good quick coupler... that we can afford. But the one I have works as long as I change the 'O' ring in it every 5-10 uses. Yours may have an 'O' ring, buried deep inside the female coupler, if not get a coupler made for the job and a handfull of 'O' rings along with a set of 'O' ring picks.

Sounds like he ran it too long with out water running through the pump. They have ceramic pistons in the pump and with out water to lubricate them they seem to burn up causing them not to seal which allows water past the piston. You can buy pump rebuild kits for them but they arent cheap. I bought one at a yard sale a couple years ago and it did the same thing. I put in a couple new pistons and seals and it works great. Having the water on is very important when you start it up. Sometimes it is hard to start with the water on, but have somebody near the water spigot to turn it on as soon as the engine start. Good luck..... .....
