I am wondering if anyone on this board has any eperience with the self contained jump start systems such as sold by harbor freight that consist of a battery enclosed in a case with attached cables and is rechargable by 110v poweer and/or 12v. How well do they work, what is their capacity. how well do they hold up after use fora year or 2, and are they woth having or just a waste of money? Thank you in advance.

If you are going to buy one, spend the extra money to buy a good one. I bought a cheap one and it only lasted for about 6 months and if you didnt keep it on the charger it would discharge it self sitting on the bench. I went to a battery store and purchased a good gel cell for it and it is working fine. So well worth the extra money on a good one if you plan on using it alot..... Just my 2 cents.....

We've got a Century Jumper 1000, and it starts everything. Rarely needs charging. Real nice thing to have, and not that expensive.

Have had several at work, have used the heck out of them, under heavy use they will last over a year, almost two. Real handy, to carry to use, doesn't spill,(gel battery), two won't start a cold Diesel tho, need heavy jumpers, and another truck. If you have a fleet, or just one, well worth the money. Personally I like them I never owned one of my own but I use them alot at work, ours was bought off the Matco tool truck it has done a good job the first one we had something happened to it about 6 months of use it wouldn't take a charge but I think it was a fluke something happened internally dont think it was worn out in that length of time, also I like harbor freight stuff iv'e had good luck with my tools i have bought from them

I have a Century brand booster pack . Paid about $90-100 for it a couple of years ago .

I have used it many times to jump anything from mower to tractors .I have only had to charge it 3 times .

I would not hessitate to buy another one .

Buy an 8D battery and some 2 gauge cables or better and you can start anything in reason.
