Weld or braze

I have 2 steel hydraulic lines on my tractor that need replaceing,they are attached to a 2x3 cast or steel plate that bolts to lift housing with O rings between. Should I weld or braze the lines to this plate and what type of rod???

braze it. bolt your fittings up, bend and fit the new pipes in place, scribe positioning marks on the parts. align and clamp the parts to a bench, so gravity doesn't fight the flow of the weld.
heat the thickest piece first and go for a 1/4" or more overlap on each part. try for a smooth, full weld and use a minimum amount of flux.

Hi DC,
Without more info, your not going to be able to weld or braze the fittings. If you heat the hose fitting to weld temperature then you will burn the hose from the barbed farrel fitting causing it to leak. The "O" rings will also be burn't so that they'll also leak.

As John pointed out this a screw joint so why the need to weld? More info might leads us to a different repair recomendation.

How are they attached now? Normally around here (at work) I would expect threaded fittings. It's generally best to replace with what came out. Often there's a reason they made it the way that they did.

I cant tell how they were attached new to the plate because someone tried to fix them and made a mess.This is a supply and return line between the pump and resevore ,on pump end it has a 1 foot high pressure hose on supply and return has clamp on hose then they both make a few turns and go into this manifold plate thats bolts up with 3 allen screws with O rings between to seal. I have everything off and have bent 2 new hyd.tubes .Looking in the O ring end of the manifold it looks like they were presed in 1/2 " but thats all I can tell not treaded because to many bends in the lines and no room for a union

Hi DC,
Now that makes sence.

I would braze/sweat the joint with 15% silver solder. Use borax as a flux, using alcohol to make a thin paste, dip the tubes ends and use a brush for the plate hole. The tubes and plate need to be free from oils so preheat with the torch burning off the oil, then flux. Remove the "O" rings, mount the plate, align the pipes, sweat the joint, then let cool, then install the "O" rings. Or sweat off the tractor then install.

Should take 2 to 3 minutes for solder to flow so don't get carried away with the heat and keep your heat on the thickest part.
