How to fix battery charger?

Charger was working fine and then quit. It is a 12v 10/2/60 amp model. Use it on trolling battery, backhoe etc. Been a great charger and hate to just pitch it.

Unsure of why it quit but assumed something shorted. Opened it up and see nothing burnt nor any smell of electrical fire. No visible damage that I have been able to locate. Looking for ways to test, repair etc. Thanks.

I guess the Mrs. decided she was tired of my growling about everything breaking around here lately. She took it back to store where I bought it some time ago and they exchanged it - no questions asked. Now I have a brand new one without a red cent.

I guess this is a sign that things are going to start turning around. Either that or she got real sick of my growling. She's good for me that way!

Thanks again!! I saved all the comments for future reference.

You can test by stepping thru each part of the circuits. Not knowing the circuitry of the charger, you can try the following.
1. put an ac voltmeter on the primary terminals on the transformer (the terminals which connect to the 120 vac source, the wall plug). You should have 120 vac (approximately). If no voltage, you have a bad connection, or maybe a blown fuse if it has one.
2. if 1. is ok, put the ac voltmeter on the secondary terminals on the transformer. You should have something in the range of 14 volts ac. the transformer steps the voltage down to the battery level. If no voltage, the transformer is bad.
3. if 2. is ok, check where the wires from the secondary go. they should go to a diode network of some kind. the diodes convert the ac voltage into a unregulated/unfiltered dc voltage. From the output of the diodes to ground, with a dc voltmeter, you should measure something in the range of 14 volts. If not, the diode circuit is probably bad.
Since it is a multiple current model, it is going to have some current limiting circuits. It is quite likely something has failed in one or more of those.

Get in a quite place & plug it in & listen close
for a light buzz, put your ear near it.If it has a
buzz then the transformer is working & the diodes
or rectifier is most likely bad.Hopefully its a bridge type which is square with 4 wires going to
it (changes AC to DC).You could buy on at radio
shack if its bad.

I have found many different appliances and such, that the 110v wire where it goes into case has broken internally due to stress. ect Check for voltage beyond on inside of case where wires connect to components, as this is not always visible. Maybe an overload protector that is stuck open. If broken wire is suspected I like to unplug the unit and check with Ohm meter, while wiggling wire where it goes thru case.

I found a short in mine in one of the wires on the 12volt side. Check them too.
