Hey, has anyone got one of the little sand blasters that Harbor Freight is offering? Are they any good? I sure could use one.

Which kind are you asking about? Notice that your replys are describing two types that HF sells. The blast cabinets or the little pressure blasters. Both types have their place but are generally used for different jobs.

My experience has not been positive. I got one as a Christmas gift last year. The hose had hardened & cracked, HF replaced it but it took 3 1/2 months. It was an odd (metric?) size, I had a very difficult time finding a replacement locally. The sand hopper in mine is too shallow, the pick up tube runs dry all the time. The light kit is a joke, I made a shade to keep it from shining into my eyes all the time. The door leaks sand. And while a shop vac works okay as a dust collector, it is noisy and not really meant to be run continuously. Make sure you keep the paper filter installed, the foam filter alone doesn't cut it alone.

All that said, I have used it a lot. They are a very handy thing to have.

Zira's comments are EXACTLY what I found. Then I got a TIP unit & it is the exact opposite of what he describes. TIP makes really fine blast cabinets.

The one you ask about MAY be ok, but do yourself a favor & check out Eastwood & TIP Tools. Either has REALLY good blast cabinets - not just - may be OK - in the short haul. Eastwood just came out with a new top load, bench model which may be a sale. TIP cabinets are AAA+++. It's China vs the USA all over again! The whole thing is the quality of the gun, pickup tube, etc.

I'm getting a little disappointed with my 40# pressure sandblaster from HF. The first part of my problem was my fault because I didn't strain the fine sand I bought from Home Depot, and I had to stop every few seconds to disassemble the nozzle to clear it. I wore out the nozzle valve from shutting it off to take it apart. Now "shut off" is a relative term. Now it seems to pulse - it will run lean, then flood out with sand and when it does that, the sand sort of drools out without much velocity. I'm wondering if this is what I am to expect from this unit. I didn't really want to spend $500 +/- on a sandblaster, but I may end up spending that plus what I spent on this. Darn.
