Is there such a thing as a tool set that allows you to make your own gaskets? I would like to find a tool that would allow me to make precise neat holes in gasket material when making my own gaskets. Does such a thing exist? Thanks. Steve

Steve, Try zimmermanpacking.com. I've used their Spearhead model 750 for years. Good luck, Joe

for small holes I use empty bullet casings, .22 through .44, punch them through with a hammer over wood.

gasket cutters are nice if you got them, years ago I was taught to cut gaskets from roll gasket material, cork and composite. Scissor out a piece, then press it against the part requiring a gasket, then taking a small ball peen hammer, using the peen end, gently tap around the edges of the holes, castings, what have you,,, the material will cut through very neatly leaving you with a precisely cut gasket. timeconsuming yes, but for just one or so, very effective. Hollow punch sets are readily available called various names. The discount market usually offers them I got mine at a flea market, but for a quality set visit a good hardware store. For large holes >1", I bought a gasket maker set that will cut round holes and is really a manual fly cutter.

I have a set of hole punches that I have made out of various sizes of pipe. Cut the pipe about 6 inches long and then grind a sharp edge on 1 end with a bench grinder. There are commericial hole punches for this job as well. I have made gaskets by using a brass or copper hammer and tapping on the gasket material using the casting and its edge as a template.
