I need to buy an air compressor for painting and sandblasting. I am considering a Campbell Hausfeld 6.5 hp, 60 gallon upright model. This model is 240 volts. Does this mean that it cannot be plugged into a regular home electrical outlet? If not, then what do I need to do to be able to operate it? Your comments are appreciated.

I'm confused, you want to run a compressor to power your sandblaster, and plug it in at your home? If you're married you won't have a happy home if that sandblaster is less than 100 feet from the house! Most guys do that far away from their shop. John Ne.

I guess you've just made me appreciate my wife a little more - I installed my 6.5 hp, 80 gal unit in the 2-car garage under the living room (my side, of course!) The whole house shakes. The only time she complained was the first time she was home alone and I forgot to shut off the pressure activated switch and the unit started up for no apparent reason. She didn't know what the devil it was since I wasn't home. I'm lucky she didn't have a heart attack.. Now it's referred to as that "thing in the garage"

Sandblasting can require a lot of air. Make sure the output of the compressor more than matches the consumption of the sandblaster you plan to use. A 110 volts compressor may be marginal to inadequate for haavy sandblasting.

No, this compressor will not operate on your standard 110 volt plug. It will require 240 volts and may have a cord simmilar to an elect. dryer. You will need to run a line to it. It may have to be hardwired in if there isn't a cord. Another question is to be sure you have adaquate power going to your house-shed-garage or whatever it's going into.
Some smaller compressors can be wired to run on 110 or 220.
