Tecumseh lawn mower engine

I have a craftsman lawn mower with the 6.75 tecumseh engine that I took in for what I would call routine service. It has slowly been taking more priming and several tries to get started and keep running. It fires immediately and then dies like starved for fuel. Anyway the repair shop calls up and tells me I have a burnt exhaust seat and need a new engine block! Is this guy cracked in the head or is this really what causes the problem. Any Tecumseh experts out there?
Thanks in advance!

Classic Tecumseh problem!
Take the fuel bowl cup off the bottom of the carb.
There is a pin hole used to balance barometric air pressure on the diaphram.
If that hole gets plugged (which happens often) the engine gets fuel starved, as it's pulling against a vacuum.
The hole is small, so use a bristle from a wire brush to clean it out.

I often find complete factory spare parts kits by the side of the road. Keep looking, you'll find one soon.

Took engine cover off today, seats looked fine, so I ground the valve stems down a little and reassembled just like I do with all my Briggs motors. Started on the second pull and mowed the whole lawn. Sigh,, I guess if you want it done right , you gotta do it all yourself!

Sounds fishy to me I believe most valve seats are replaceable I'd get a second opinion if it we're me.
