I just brought home an old South Bend Lathe. According to South Bend by the serial number 2988 it is from 1914. It is a 13" with a 6 ft. bed. Model # 32. Does anyone know where I can get any information on how everything is supposed to work on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, DJ

Lindsay Publications, Link has several different reprint editions of HOW TO RUN A LATHE, originally published by South Bend. They have loads of other books that a person who brought home a South Bend lathe might be interested in.

dj this is going to sound trite, but have you ran a search for South Bend Lathe Works yet? Another idea is the public library, they should have several books for them. I have (somewhere) an old operators manual from South Bend Lathe, if I can find it I'll email you the front cover+entitlement page so you have something to compare further discoverys with. Good luck, I always found lathe work to be quite relaxing and even fun sometimes even after 37 yrs in tool & die making.
