As neat as that rig looks - I've got to say I've got a MDT from Sam's Club I bought for less than $700 five years ago & it works just fine. I split mostly big ole spruce with lots of limbs going clear to the center. This outfitt just seems a bit expensive. But then - that's why I'm DumOleBob!

Cliff: My father-in-law has had one of these units for at least 15 years (possibly longer) and has split over 1200 cords of wood (he sold firewood for several years) with his 3hp model. ---- When I first saw his machine I laughed because it looked like a toy compared to the hydraulic splitters we were selling at the time to commercial users. My father-in-law explained he didn't have the time to waste, waiting for a hydraulic machine to cycle! However, after seeing the little machine work, I was truly impressed. ---- Instead of the slow stroke of a hydraulic splitter exerting brute force, this unit works more like a splitting maul. The speed of the ram is incredible to watch. It will hold its own against most hydraulic splitters in terms of splitting ability, but will out-produce most hydraulics by a large margin. ---- I believe, but may be mistaken, that the original machines were sold under the "FXG" label, but that company went out of business a while back. It looks like someone brought it back to life. ---- E-mail if you have any questions I can help with.

So, are they screw type, or what? Not familiar with the name, a web site or anything to help us check them out? Tractor PTO, bolt on a wheel, or??? :)

Just went to the website; looks like an interesting concept, but 1 question comes quickly to mind: can anybody handle wood that's big enough to need splitting fast enough to take advantage of the quicker cycle times? I start puffing and huffing while trying to keep up with a hydraulic system, let alone this speed demon.
