I've just been offered a Homelite 245 that's been sitting in a garage for a number of years since it's original purchaser died.

It appears to be in excellent condition, but will not even attempt to fire and has no manual. Putting a small quantity of 40:1 mix in the spark plug hole or directly into the carb gets it to fire up for a few seconds so it looks like a fuel problem.

Does anyone have a manual that they would be able to scan and forward to me and/or any words of wisdom regarding carb setting (in particular the hi low screws)?

All assistance would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Alex

Any old chainsaw that's been sitting for that long will need a carb kit. The diaphrams become stiff with age. That's happened to ALL the chainsaws I from people who didn't use them. Also, don't use carb cleaner until the whole thing is dissasembled. That stuff does a great job of disolving the rubber seals in these carbs. Replace the fuel lines while you're at it.

I need to find someone in Perth Western Australia, who sells Homelite chainsaws. I have an old 200 and I've lost the w/shop manual.

Clean that carb real well with spray carb cleaner inside and out, leave the hi/lo screws where you find them and replace the fuel line with fresh tubing. Make sure the tank is clean and the filter should also be replaced. start with a 25-1 mix and it should run for you. The crankshaft seals may be dry depending on how long it sat.Good Luck
