I recently picked up a couple tools from an estate sale. A picture of some is at (www.coshatt.com\tool.jpg). I was wondering if anyone knew how I could find out the general age of the sabre saw, made by craftsman, at the top and just what the other tool is. It might be a knife sharpener but I can't explain the little wheel at the end that might be a glass cutter.

Thanks

Dan

You might want to look at these items. They are not like yours but have the same idea and might give you a lead to the tool.

Your right. Several of these look very similar in one way or another.

I was finally able to get into the Patent web site and confirmed the tool as a knife sharpener. Patent applied for in 1926 but not granted till 1930. No honest way I know of actually determining age.

Thanks again

I think your tool is a combination knife sharpener and glass cutter. Is there a name on it such as "Handy" ?

Thanks for the response. That combination of tools is odd to me but might make perfect sense for someone in the business. There isn't a name but the patent number is 1749442. I looked it up at the patent web site but there was no text available and I couldn't view the pictures that were available.

Thanks

Dan

I have come across one of these tools also. Patent number 1749442. I also couldn't see a picture at the patent office. I see your post is several years old. What is the tool?

If you can find the Craftsman/Sears model number on the saw, they can probably ID it for you.

Judging by appearance, I'd say 1950-ish.

You nailed it. I took it to a to a Sears guy and he said a number stamped in the ID label meant it was built on the 17th week of 1958.

Thanks

Dan
