Case VAC icing problem

I have a 1950 Case VAC that will experience icing up during the winter along the intake tube, between the carb and the manifold. I know that it will always occur because of the cold air running up the tube, however, the longer the tractor runs, the leaner the mixture gets. This will ususally take about 30 minutes for the icing. Eventually I run out the choke, and have to take my hands or take a heat gun to melt the ice away. Then I don't need run with the choke out for a while, until it starts up again. Any ideas?? Is it possible that I am not getting the engine hot enough in the winter and have to cover part of the radiator up? I just realized that my temp. gauge doesn't work, so I don't know what it was running at last winter. Thanks...Bob

Running the engine hotter isn't likely to keep the intake from freezing. What you need to do is what cars had for years, a hose plumbed in before the carb drawing warm air off the exhaust manifold. A visit to a junkyard with lots of pre fuel injection cars will probably yield something that won't be too hard to attach. Don't worry about finding good flexihose, all the auto stores have that. Set it up so that it draws half cold and half hot air and you are good to go!
