OT--MOLE elimination

Last year and this year, my yard is infested with moles. I have tried traps, with little success, and even tried the "exhaust in tunnell". I have searched the net.and got a few suggestions, mostly for products for sale, that may or may not work. Any suggestions?

We use to have moles in a bad way. Then one day the better half came home with a couple rat terriers from the pound and later a carin terrier. Only moles we see now show up dead occassionaly at the back door (a little chewed on). That's their purpose in life and they are very skilled.

Well, you could do what one of the big bosses working for the state did....send a crew to borrow a one ton roller from half way across the state and roll the entire lawn in hopes of squashing the little buggers...yep, he really did! Didn't do anything to the moles tho'!

Or...I had luck at my mom's house years ago with those plastic flower-shaped pinwheels. Moles didn't like the vibrations. Had four or five of them around a bit more then a 1/4 acre of lawn. Regardless of what you feel about pesticides, the pinwheels are cheaper :)

My own house, for whatever reason, I've never had a problem with them.

i tried castor oil, kill grubs ,didnt work. there are poison worms i havent tried , sounds good if moles will actually eat them.. ive caught 174 so far with traps and shovel in 6 years. if you dont have time to put into catching them,hire someone who does. no easy soution far as i know.i just went thru invasion from all sides,caught 8 .you can get em out of your yard for a while,but face it,your surrounded. lucas

If you see them moving dirt a 20GA shotgun with #4 shot works pretty well.

I went to the county extension with this problem. Mix castor oil and dawn dishwasing soap together. Get one of those liquid applicators that goes on the end of the garden hose. Spray the whole yard. Mole don"t like castor oil on their fur At least I've had good luck. Hope you get rid of them varmits Bernie Steffen

You need to kill the food supply for the moles, use granular insecticide for the grubs and that should make the moles leave. I had moles real bad at my old house, I tried flooding them out, traps, then I got smart and killed their food supply.

couple of bored dogs.... We've got 3 Australian Sheperds that do a bang up job on pests. they'll put themselves at tactical locations (to them anyway) and set and listen/ watch the grass for any movement. I always find about 2 of something (mole, rat, or hedge hog a week outside the barn in the trophey corner.

Moles don't like castor oil. You can plant castor beans, but a simpler method is just make up a castor oil solution and spray it on your lawn. Do a Google search for "Ed Hume mole formula". His formula makes a little castor oil go a long ways, and it works. Chases the moles over to your neighbor's yard. Ed Hume used to live just down the hill from me, had a syndicated gardening show on teevee. I believe he's retired now.

I sprayed last year, big expense. Found out they eat other things such as "earthworms" Still have the problem.

Jiles; The answer to this issue is very simple, add lime to your yard. The grubs that the moles prey on will not live in a yard with a high ph. not only will you not have the moles and grubs but your lawn will grow better and greener/

The Rodenator is an effective way to get rid of moles and gophers. Kinda pricey but boy does it work.
I saw it demonstrated on TV. You put the nozzle in the hole and pump the propane for a few seconds and then squeeze the trigger. It ignites the propane, small explosion occurs which INSTANTLEY kills critter and causes the tunnel to collapse.
I'm trying to justify the price to my wife by making myself for hire to the neighbors.
