I need a 2-way pto for an older model Chevy truck with slant gears. Are they hard to find and what are they worth?

Like the others said you need to get the information off of the tag on the transmission.Chevrolet used a bunch of different transmissions,New Process,Spicer,Muncie, and others. After you get all the numbers you might be able to find one at a truck salvage yard just guessing maybe 50 dollars. You know it has to be shimmed to keep from knocking out bearings and to shift right, ask if you dont know how.If you are hooking this to a hydraulic pump I think you need a 2 way pump.I could be wrong, but If there is a 2 way pto,I dont remember seeing it.Reasonably sure I have not seen everything they put on a Chevy truck, but have not seen a 2 way pto, have seen power up/down pumps. There might be a pto that has a shaft that comes out of both the front and back,or that can be changed around from the front to back.Besides a salvage yard,a place that rebuilds transmissions maybe is a good place to try.Dont know where you are but at Kansas City there a place called Precision Built, and Truck Pro(Truck Pro has parts places all over the USA),and others,Custom Truck Parts,Arrow Truck parts,Places that sell truck beds like Binkley,Knaphyde,Heil all should be able to tell you something, but all of them will need the numbers off of your transmission and most likely the line setting tag of your truck which used to be inside of the glove box door,or on a tag somewhere inside the cab.

Well Elton. As J Schwiebertposted. We can't see your truck from here and we can't read your mind. Tell us whay you have and what you intend to do with it.
I've seen forage wagons towed by pickups that had a little old utility tractor sitting in the box without wheels. Just hook the wagon's pto shaft to the tractor when at the silo and crank up the tractor.

The first you need to know for any PTO requirement to get the correct PTO is the make & model of the transmission especially in the size transmission Elton is refering to. All these manufactures use a different pitch on these helical (slant in Elton's Term) gears. In fact for a while New Venture used a different pitch in the same model depending if it was for A Dodge or a G-M order. Now if anybody that reads this, I do have a few books yet on how to order and size a PTO which is determined by what you want to drive with the PTO and the make & model of the transmission. If anybody wants one let me know before I recycle them. Also I used to do Chelsea PTO classes so anyone else has a question I will tery to answer it. Also if his truck now has a common single speed PTO with an I. D. tag then I can cross that over to a reverseable unit. Everybody have a good day.J

I know what you mean, BUT the first thing you need to know is make and model of the transmission. I used to do Chelsea PTO field schools for a few years. Your slant gear is a helical gear, but each transmission manufacture uses a different pitch on the gear. There are also single speed forward and reverse PTO's as well as 2 speed units. I sent you an e-mail. J.

What's a 2 way PTO - 540 & 1000 RPM? I have never heard of "slant gears" Bevel gears, spur gears, Hypoid gears, herringbone gears, straight gears, worm gears, Involute gears, but no slant gears. So I think that's what the ?? was about.

Truck transmissions use an auxillary pto that bolts to the side of the tranny to power hydraulic pumps or winchs. Some trannys have gears that are straighy, some are slanted. Some are one way some are reversable.
