I've had an Echo GT1100 string trimmer for about 15 years. A few years ago, when I was having trouble with it, a kind gentleman from the midwest responded to my post here on YT, and subsequently shipped me a replacement carb, and also provided various tips which resulted in extending its life for a few years. Now, it's back to where it was then...surging at full power, dying when idling. I've done all of the usual things: cleaned the carb, cleaned the spark arrestor screen, checked and cleaned the plug, started from scratch and reset HI and LOW screws, and it still is not running well enough to get the job done. I guess it's time to replace it.Suggestions with pros and cons from anybody? I did a search on YT and didn't find anything to help with making a decision. I think it was on eOpinions that I found recommendations for newer Echo models and Husqvarna models, and also for the 4-stroke Honda, but the article was a couple of years old. My Honda mower has always been easy starting, so I was leaning that way for a small tiller a few years ago, but instead bought a Mantis tiller. I had been set on the 4-cycle Honda, but was warned off by the dealer who said the small 4-cycles weren't reliable. So, can anybody offer any pros and cons on the three above? I've already decided against Ryobi, and some of the others of similar quality, and am not interested in "budget" trimmers after a bad experience with a Ryan prior to the Echo. I'm expecting to pay around $200 or more, knowing that the Honda is going to be over $350. I hay a few acres and use the trimmer mostly for trimming around the yard, around sprinkler risers, to clear out patches of cheat grass and foxtail, and to clean up places I can't get to with my sickle mower. You can tell haying is a hobby, not a livelihood! :) Thanks for any input! Chuck, WA
