O/T Dodge Truck

Well it is used for towing a tractor so I guess I'm okay. I have to replace front rotors on a '99 Dodge 3500 dually 4x4. Does anyone know if the bearing/hub assembly needs to be pulled to unbolt the rotors? The bearings are $285 a side at my cost and I'm hoping that I won't have to change them. Thanks, Jf

Thanks for all of your replies. I got started today and as soon as I jacked it up I could tell both wheel bearings were junk and the right lower ball joint also. Tore it all down and replaced all of the ball joints and the bearings. What a pi$$ poor design, especially trying to line all the stuff up to go back into the steering knuckle. Thanks again, Jf

Remove the 4 12 point bolts and use 2 bolts same size but about 4 inches long to push the assy off. Have done many of these and beating on yhem will just increase the chance that you will break something mor costly. Don't ask. Put the bolts in diagonally from each other. Amazing how easy the hub will come off when you push instead of beating with a hammer

Remove the 12 point bolts from inner side(13mm) and large axle nut and beat the assembly off.Trucks in the salt-belt come off hard.Careful not to wreck the dust shield.

Don't beat them if you don't have to. If this is a 4x4 then place a large socket between the knuckle on the u-joint and the end of the axle tube. then use the power steering to gently bump the bearing carrier out. Some have had this not work for them and my experience is with a 1500 Ram. It has worked for me every time.

I have a 96' Dodge Ram 2500 with the heavy front axle(diesel)and they are pressed onto the beaing. I believe your truck is similiar. Try this site, they have a lot of members that know the particulars about your axle: Link

i looked it up and the hub needs to come off to remove the rotor on the 3500. rotor from the dealer show a list of 214.00, part number 4798314. flat rate time is 1.4 hrs per side.
