I need a set of plans or a cutting diagram for a logging arch with a winch. The sections of tree I need to haul would be 18 to 24 inches in diameter. I would be using either a 300 utility or a ford jubilee. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just use the frame of an old single axle manure spreader that I had scrapped. I put 2" x 2" square tubing across the frame. One at each end, and one in the middle, with 6" high uprights at each side of the frame, on the ends of the square tubing. I use my loader tractor for loading, and unloading, and using another tractor for hauling. I can load 3 24" diameter logs on it. 2 on the bottom, and one on the top, like a pyramid. Works real good. Longest logs I have hauled on it was 21'.
Hope this helps.
Bruce.

I have yet to build an arch but it is on my to do list . So far I have an old ROPS from my Kubota 4150 to use for the arch and rear wheel bearing/hub assemblies from an 90"s era olds 88 my plan is to use wheels that are tall and narrow such as temporary spares now I am looking for iron for the tounge and a boat winch and the time, the hardest to come by component LOL. BTW the hubs are from the rear axle on a front wheel drivecar. Save some money make your own!. gh

New steel is high but if you wait for the right scrap to come along the project will never get done. You need tall tires to keep the log from dragging.Using too high a frame makes the rig tippy.

Getting the log off the ground is the best method even if its slower.I can travel on the highway and over hay land and lawns without making a mess.Plus no dirt on logs to dull the saw.

On occasion I use my Ford 2000 to skid logs. Chain them to the draw bar lift w/3PT hitch. When the terrain is suitable skidding 2 or 3 logs at a time is quite easy. I'd like a log arch for quick moving of 1 log.

I always just used a few good beams as ramps and wrapped a comealong aroung the log to the other side of the trailer so the log would roll up the ramps as the comealong was cranked in.

If you can find a Northern Tool+Equipment (Master Catalog) = Page 157 they have one and it looks like you could get some ideas from. Good luck Jim

Mother earth news did a plan on a log hauler.I used heavier square tubing and made a few improvments.I had the wheels and tires and a worm gear winch on hand.Cost 200.00 6 years ago,new steel is higher now.It lifts the log off the ground so I can travel on the highway.A ready made version costs 1500.00 plus. The worm gear winch is slow so avoid that type.I can haul one big log or several smaller ones.Logs get to my sawmill clean.

I made a arch from angle iron welded into box. With a hand wench and 3/8" cable moves 8-16' logs from woods to sawmill I use a Gravley tractor or 4 wheeler to pull arch, Gravley is much better skidder than 4 wheeler as it turn sharper. If you load proper the log is balanced in the arch and little or no weight goes on skidder. Sorry dont have any plans just made it to my needs using what I had to work with, been working good for about 10+ yrs.

Those Gravelys are little pulling fools aren't they.
