Purchased nib from home depot (13 Apr 08) a ryobi chainsaw 18" 40cc Model 10532. The first time I went to cut trees down the saw kept stalling on me during the horizontal cut. So I tolerated it on the first day. Just last saturday I went to cut more trees down and it did the same thing. I have since then returned it for another one and waiting to see if it happens again.

Has anyone else experienced this type of problem, if so what was your solution to correct it.

I noticed that our Home Depot doesn"t carry the 18" 40cc Model 10532 anymore. Our store said they were getting alot of returns. I used mine and on the 2nd day the starting contacts on the fly wheel broke. My problem is that the 2nd day was 12 months after the first day.

I had this happen on a brand new looking Craftsman saw once that I bought at a garage sale for $10.00.

Turned out to be an incorrectly formed gasket in the carb assembly. This particular saw had the fuel pump actuated by the crankcase pulse. The gasket under the carb did not have the hole punched all the way through and the fuel pump was not working fully. When running upright the gravity of the fuel in the tank coupled with the weak pump action was enough to keep it running. Turning the saw over would cause it to lean out because the pump couldn't draw the fuel.

The fix was to punch the hole in the gasket and button it back up. Ran fine for 10 years after that.

I ended up turning the saw back in and bought a homelight 4218 46cc on sale and low and behold that this one runs in all positions that a saw is expected to be in.

The only thing I can think of is that it is a manufactors defect.

I am not too impressed with Ryobi. Poulans seem to be ok cheap chainsaws though. I have a couple of them and am well satisfied with them.
Bought one about 5 yrs ago and an older one was given to me, replaced the fuel line and all was well.

buy a better saw and all your problems go away I bought a stihl to replace a problem and have not looked back and that was quite a few years ago.
