Does anyone have any experience with Stanley tools in their Professional Series? They are sold at Menards and Wal-Mart, and I am assuming other retail outlets, though I have not seen them many places. Since they carry a lifetime warranty like many other tool lines, I am currious what there quality is like and what the replacement issues are. I know that Craftsman if fairly good, and Thorsen is quite good. Would Stanly be close? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I worked at stanley till they moved operations to canada. Mac tools are great quality but overpriced. Also have to corner a route driver to get replacements. I buy Sears.

Stanley makes Husky, Proto, MAC and New Britain tools. I don't know what's been going on with Proto lately. There have been problems between Stanley and some MAC route guys. Lawsuits by the route guys. Stanley was also in trouble with the FTC for saying made in USA on tools they were actually bringing in from Asia. I notice the new Husky stuff I saw at Depot tonight either has nothing on it for country of origin or says made in Taiwan, packaged in China.

I don't think much of any hand tools from China or Taiwan. And I don't like what Stanley's been up to. So I'm taking my business elsewhere. Take a look at Wright tools. And my old standby, SK.

For years and years I swore by Craftsman until about two years ago when I broke two 1/2" breaker bars almost back to back and they handed me the third and said "we don't just give them away ya' know" I then bought a set from Harbor Freight and have been happy, happy. Also I have found "Cresent" to be a pretty good set (I bought mine from Sam's) only I need a 11/16" combo wrench or a cresent wrench.

I've used Stanley tools for years, never bought from their professional line though. I have good luck getting replacements on broken tape measures at Menards. I broke the claw off of a Stanley claw hammer and when I took it into Menards they said They would replace it if they had an exact copy of the one that I had. I had the hammer 20+ years and they changed the style in that time so I could not get a replacement. The one problem I have had with Snap-on, S-K, Matco and Craftsman is when you break one of their tools they give you a free replacement but, it never matches the tool you replaced. This has not been very good for keeping a nice uniform set in your toolbox.

Let me see if I understand this, you are upset because Snap-on will replace one of their tools, but it isn't an exact duplicate, yet when you break one of Stanley's home owner quality tools, and the only way they will honor the lifetime warranty is if they have an exact duplicate, you walk away happy?

My experience with Stanley tape measures lately has been poor. Their idea of standing behind their product was to stand behind the display and say "Gee, that's too bad." The folks in on the manufacturing side of our facility all use Craftsman tapes. If broken, they are replaced, no questions asked. I can't speak to how they act on their other tools, but I am in the habit of giving my business to whomever gives the best service. I know where I am buying my next tape measure.

Just my opinion.
