My wife drives a 2000 Cavalier with the 2.2.Last summer the oil pressure light came on and engine was shut down as soon as it came on.Checked oil and was not even showing on stick, started to look for leaks and found the sending unit for the light had blown apart, dumped the oil.Didn't take long since it is only a 4 quart system.Checked pressure and replaced sender and have not had any more trouble.Could find no other place to tap into oil galley to check pressure. It is toght but it can be done.

There's no oil pressure gauge in the cockpit? Hmm, if not, you can always just get a new pressure sending unit.

These sending units go out on Jeep Cherokees all the time, so maybe yours is bad... try this first before you keep running the thing around. I figure if you have a relatively safe amount of miles and you've been changing the oil, you should have some good pressure.

ORRR... there's always the chance that your pressure is still there but just low enough to turn the light on at times... high mileage vehicle.

Change the sensor first and see what happens.
