While leafing through some of my old shop manuals I noticed that some of them had some black mold on them, some worse than others. 20 years ago I would have just lysoled or just wiped them off. but now with all the bad press Im not sure what to do with them. Is there any cure for black mold on paper?

A couple around here nearly died trying to remove moldly material from a basement from a forclosed home they bought , so depending on how bad it is beware .They found out the hard way mold is toxic ,and it takes more that a dose of clorox to get rid of certain strains of mold .and anything black found in a home has to be removed according to the mold abatement pros that ended up finishing the job for them . .

I figure there are some people out there that are alergic to mold, mildew etc but as far as what the media says about it I personally think it's all blown WAY out of proportion. While remodeling my house I recently discoverd mold behind the paneling in my living room caused by leaking flashing around the fireplace. It was obvious to look at that it had been there awhile. Going by what the media says I should have had respitory problems and probably been sick and close to death from being in the same room with it for at least several hours nearly every night. Funny thing is I can't remember the last time I really got sick. We also have alot of old manuals in the office at the shop that have the same stuff your talking about in them in places. I'm in the office usually several hours a week and again I ain't dead yet. That said if the manuals are in your shop don't do anything, like bleaching, to damage them. if you want to spray them with some Lysol or something like that I'd say go ahead, or you can simply leave them alone and put them back on the shelf til you need them again.

Possibly UV light and/or ozone.
