I don't think I need to say much more, except a easy job of removing a snapped elbow fitting has now got much tougher. F20 Farmall fitting to the oil pump, brass fitting, can usually EZ out with pliers on similar. Locked Vicegrips on, SNAP, down in the fitting. Talked to a friend of mine in a machine shop, he says to figure on Dremel it out and cut new threads in the block. I AM going to buy a Snap On (Bluepoint) set of EZ outs as soon as I can. DOUG

I agree with Bob. When I have to use one I get a tap out of my greenfield tap and die set and drive the square end in and turn it out. Never broke one yet.

A place I worked at, there was a 3rd shift set-up man that had bought several sets of the fast-spiral Chinese EZ Outs. After I had to EDM 4 or 5 of them out, after they broke, I asked him how much they cost.. He told me, and I told him to go get what ones were left, and bring them back to the shop. I went up to the office & got petty cash to pay him for the EZ Outs... I fired up the torch and destroyed the ones that were left. and told him to never bring another Chinese EZ Out into the plant, or I would see that he was fired...

Hello dowg in illinois.
Snap on has a type that has an hex head for a socket to fit on it to turn it and the extractor is part of the tool.The extactor size we had in our set at work was up to 1/2' tip size. It was good up to a 3/4 bolt.
I'm sure they are available individually.The best part about this type of extractor is that the threaded portion goes into the hole and then when you turn it to take the broken piece out it bottoms at the lip of the tool at the bottom of the socket adaptor and walks the piece wright off. I guess they are still available?

I have been on Snap On website, could it possibly be the set 1020? I don't ever need sets for bigger bolts, etc. as I can usually drill them out enough to put heat to them or is worst case just torch them clear out and re cut the threads. Not an option to use that much heat on this even with the oil pump removed. IF I can get a hole drilled thru the broken EZ out, I am thinking about using a self tapping RH screw to see if the EZout will actually screw back out. Also thinking about cutting a slot across the broken EZout with my Dremel and try to turn it back out with one of my square shank screwdrivers. I am thinking may want to heat it with my propane torch just before I try that, don't want to use as much heat as the oxy-acetylene makes. DOUG

Snap On easy outs work good for easy outs,the ones that are square and I think thats the ones that are for brass.If Snap On makes it somebody else does as well,and cost less when you find it.You can look at an auto parts store for easy outs,Lisle makes some,part number 62900.Dont know what they cost but should be lots less than Snap On and made in the USA.There are most likely more than that.The real expensive Snap On ones break easy if you dont have them in right.Brass fittings can get real tight some times but you can get them out with an easy out.I always was able to get them out some way.I have even driven a torx bit,a chizel,a allen wrench,even a screwdriver,into one and got it out before.The main thing is to not break anything off in it.

Don't buy the shouldered ones! Those break so easily at the neck that you hardly need a wrench to wring them apart. Only good thing about their breaking is they do it so easily and quickly that the tool isn't inserted deeply or hard, so you can take the broken piece out readily enough.

Snap-On does not warranty their extractors.

There are many Snap-On looks I like, this is not one of them.

I carry a set in my chore coat pocket in winter that I costs 1 Euro ($1.60) in the store. The automatic waterers in the stalls have a little plastic metering screw that works good as frost protection. Screws into brass. These little things usually take the little end that stays in the threads (when a freeze pushes the rest out) out in short order. Had an unusual day that one didn't come out so easy. Stepped up to one that ended up catching the brass, and it snapped off like pot metal. Was a booger to drill a hole in though. I've got an old reamer tool that is built like one of the big almond shaped handled screwdrivers that is tapered and looks like a giant phillips screwdriver. Had to replace waterers that were plumbed w/ galvanized pipe that the fittings snapped off. Smacked that thing in w/ a hammer and turned it with a wrench and took about ten of them out w/ no problems.
I got a brass fitting out of the radiator on my tractor by tapping the handle of a file in and twisting it out.

Theres more then one type of EZ out made. The ones you buy at a hard ware store are junk and not worth what you pay for them and then theres the other type that will cost you $75 plus for a set and they are good and I will never use one of the long cheap ones again. The ones I'm talking about are only about and inch long and you don't tap them in they screw them selfs in and I have never broke one yet even when I used an impact gun on one

I'll buy some cheap Chinese junk sometimes, but all of my easy-outs and left-hand drill bits say MAC on them.

Doug, I agree, Chinese tools are crap. Aside from that, you're a lot better off using a tap wrench on an EZ-out. You get a good even straight pull on the EZ-out. Less chance of breakage..... ..Good luck..... .rw
