Anyone here heard of using a 50/50 mixture of acetone and ATF?

There were some discussions about it on NewAgTalk so I gave it a try. WOW! I have had some stuff laying around for a couple years because I couldn't get it apart-2 days with the occasional squirt of Acetone/ATF and I got it out without using heat or even a cheater bar.

Just wanted to pass along.

Paul

The active ingredients of all penetrating fluids are nothing more than oil plus solvent. Each Mfg has its own ratio and then adds color and perfume so its looks and smells special. For years we recycled the dirty stoddard solvent from the parts cleaner and used it as our own penetrating oil and it worked exactly the same as any store bought I have been around. Dad and I used to laugh that if we could make it look purdy and change the smell we could bottle it and be wealthy, LOL Try your dirty parts cleaner fluid and be amazed also.

I do not remember where I read it but a 50/50 mix worked better than anything else they tested. acetone/atf

I am confident that it will work well. But the acetone will evaporate rapidly. Keep your supply tightly closed. Liquid Wrench used to use similar solvents.

Home Shop Machinist compared that brew to the best of the comemrcial penetrating oils a few months ago. And it worked best for their test. They made up test samples and then ran them through days of salt spray to rust them equally. The ATF acetone mix turned the pieces with half the torque of the best which was Kroil.
