Kinda off topic...nail guns

I have a lot of work to do this Summer back home. Going to try and get some of the old boards off the barn and put some new ones up.
I also plan on fixing a wood fence here at the house.
I was thinking of getting a good nail gun from Home Depot, but a friend told me to go to Harbor Freight.
There is one just up the road, but I have never had a lot of luck with their tools.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

HF has several models, the best is a 3 in 1, it will work with almost any brand of nails out there. ..Very handy when you see nails at an auction, it'll use 3 different angles and both full head and cliped head nails.

Been using mine for many years and never had a problem.

I've got the cheap HF framer (about $89) and shoot 3 1/2 " nails through it for fences- works great, I have run a pile through it.

I also got there cheapo "brad/ stapler" for about $19...the wire brads work great on trim, never used it with staples.

I've never used any other brand air nailer, so I have nothing to reference it to...but it drives the nail, and ain't broke yet!

Do a search for "remanufactured tools". They're usually substantially less money than new and carry the same warranty.

I have a HF staple gun, brad gun and framing nail gun. The cheapest they sell. All are fine.

Paslode consumables are not cheap, Used to use those at work. Good guns just not cheap to buy or keep.

Good advise below though to be sure you can get the nails you need for the gun you intend to buy.

I have 3 finish nailers and one stapler from HF. One of the finish nailers is not very good- and it is by far the most expensive one. The other nailers and stapler are really good.

Pick one that you can get nails to fit. They are not all the same angle, some take clipped heads, some take full heads. And some building codes don't accept clipped heads. And look for galvanized or stainless for some outdoor jobs. These details will narrow your used or new selection.

do you have air where you are going to be working? portable or gas compressor? if not go with the paslode nailer. i have a paslode, a bostitch and a senco framing nailer, all good guns. the air nailers are faster because of the cycle time with the paslode, and the paslode is a little heavier gun, but for portability and ease of use, paslode is a dandy. i have a 12v to 110v 300 watt power converter that plugs into the cig lighter on the truck and can keep batteries charges for the paslode and any cordless tools. pretty handy for remote locations.

I bought a t-nail gun from HF years ago. Shot thousands of nails thru it, most into concrete. Never a problem. Go figure.

Check Craig's list, I've seen Paslode cordless guns for $100 there. I'd stay away from Harbor Freight for anything!
