Lincoln Welder 225 amp Gas power ????

Just acquired a Lincoln 225 amp gas powered, Onan 2 cylinder. It has a dual 30 amp 110 outlet. It is wired for 2 batteries. Does it take 2 6-volt batteries or 2 12 volt ones ?? I can't read the tag on side of engine telling battery volts. Thanks

Go to Lincoln website and look for Operator Manual as a download. If not there call Lincoln. Tom

OK, Thanks a bunch for the battery situation. Now, it has not run or welded in couple of years, how should I go about handling the welder armature ?? Any special way to clean or anything to do, before I hook the 2 12 volts batteries to it ??? It will run as I started it with a rope. Anyone know, positive or negative ground ?? Thanks for all the help !!!!

I have one just like it. 2- 12 volt batteries in series to make 24 volts that start with the welder windings. The only thing that has ever given me any trouble on the rig is the accelerated governor. I had to rewind the coil in that because parts are no longer available.

I have 2 of these old Lincwelder 225s, they use 2 12 volt batteries to make 24 volts. There is no starter on the engine itself, they used the generator as the starter. The starter quit working on one of the two welders I have, but it starts very easily with the rope starter, so that is another option if you can"t come up with batteries or the starter winding is burned out.

The ones like this we had took 2 group 53 12 volt batteries. The same as a Corvair some Datsuns and some of the early 12 volt Oldsmobiles.

Most likely it does not have a starter motor but uses the welder windings as a starter motor. I had one and it used 2 twelve volt batteries producing 24 volts. One day with the batteries completely dead one of the workers used booster cables and put them on with the polarity wrong and the motor arn backwards (very poorly) and blew oil out of the air intake. I thought a piston was busted and bought a new unit to use that day and when the engine was torn down there was nothing wrong with the engine. Very good machine.

look on starter and see if has volts on it or solenoid also if has a voltage regalator on the out side of engine most of them had a12 system on them
