Mimmermatic 200 Sheilding Gas

My experience has been with CO2, but my twenty pound bottle is too small and I would like to buy a bigger one, but the twenty pounder is the largest straight CO2 bottle I can buy.

I do farm welding, maintenence welding, general fabrication, auto body welding, etc. I frequently use used steel. I also have an arc welder which I use extensively.

As always, I APPRECIATE your comments/advice.

Actually the 75/25 mix is 75% Argon---not that knowing that makes any difference in the way you'll weld.

Regarding use on mild steel only, straight CO2 produces a hotter weld puddle for the voltage, a lot of spatter, and a less enjoyable welding experience, somehow. Whether its lower price should influence you depends on how much gas shielded welding you're going to be doing. Unless the savings is going to be significant, you might want to treat yourself to the more enjoyable experience of welding with C25, as 25% CO2 / 75% Argon is called.

P.S. I kind of like the name Mimmermatic, but if you HAD gotten an editor, he or she would have caught Sheilding, too. It's Shielding. I never criticize people's spelling on this forum (or elsewhere) unless they bring it up---then I'm on it like a terrier on a rat.

After I posted that Millermatic correction I noticed the Shielding mis-spelling, but I wasn't about to post another correction.

Being a good speller nowadays will do a person about as much good as being able to wiggle his ears. I do have a bit of a gift for spelling---not spelling bee spelling, just the usual---which I would gladly trade for just about any other gift.

Unless you need to do bodywork or just need some way to throw away money with mixed gasses, Co2 will be just fine. And much cheaper.

I certified on 3/8 plate with Co2 without a problem and know it welds just fine.

I'll bet they'll refill that big bottle they won't sell. If not maybe you don't need gas after all. Just run flux core.
