You can try to run mismatched battieres but the cart will never run decent. And you are running an increased risk of battery explosion.
The batteries have to be all the same make, size and age.

I work at the local golf course and the only true way to find out how good a golf cart battery pack is means that you have to have them cnecked with a load discharge tester that checks the whole pack at full load for approximately 60 minutes then you take a volt meter and read each indivuidual battery to find the weak one(s). The normal automotive load tester will tell you very little about the deep cycle golf cart battery because it can't hold a sustained load for the whole battery pack that long. A hydrometer test will show the weak cell in the battery. It is pretty safe to say that if you have more than one weak battery you need to replace the full set. The new battery tends to fall to the level of the older ones.

After the batteries are charged check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in each cell
with a hydrometer and compare the readings. Each cell should read 1.250 or better. The readings should be close to one another. Hal
