Does anyone have a manual for a Kohler R301s engine? This is on a Miller Roughneck welder and it's 12 HP. Haven't run this in a few years and was thinking on selling but, would like to get it running first. I can take all these numbers to the parts store to see what they can do to find it. I thought someone might just have one. I have been looking all over the web for a manual but can only find k series or magnum series manuals. I am guessing this is from 50's maybe 60's. Thanks

FYI: There is a great cam shaft mod for the 12hp K301. Use a 18hp OHV camshaft..its worth about 2-3 hp and really makes it run better.I modified my Gravely about 4-5 years ago.Better starting, more power can now use a higher gear for most work.

You should clean the points with some 320 wet or dry then see if there's fire to the plug. The carburetor and gas tank may be gummed up from old gas sitting in there for a long period of time and both will require cleaning. Hal

I have a K301s it uses points and std coil.Mine has external coil resister.You can use a coil with internal resister.Timing is set via point gap.Great engine.I do have manual.

No such thing as a Kohler R301S, if it is a 301 series engine, it is a K301S, started manufacturing in the early to mid 60's. On a Miller welder, more than likely was made in the 70s though.

Dang, I wish I had known the manual was free...I gave $12.00 for mine. I have a 12 hp in my Hobart, but it's not wanting to start right now. I think I need to clean the carb.

You need to check for fire to the sparkplug. If there's no fire clean the points with some 320 wet or dry then see if there's fire to the plug.
Put about a teaspoon of fresh gas in the cylinder and reinstall the plug and see if it tries to run.
If it runs and quits you have blockage somewhere in the gas tank, gas line or carburetor. Pull the gas line off the carburetor and hold a clean container beneath the gas line & see if there's a full stream of gas into the container. If there is the carburetor probably needs cleaning. Hal
