Many times when looking for things on eBay I find the item is "hosted" free by Auctiva auction service. They show multiple pictures, borders, etc., at no charge. On the Auctiva website, it seems the testimonials all are from full time sellers and are of course positive, but is it a good deal for an infrequent seller? How can they make a profit doing it for free?

Auctiva makes money by selling discount shipping insurance. They also make money by duping you into registering a domain name with them, but when you try to use that domain with any other website, you will have to first buy it from auctiva. There may be some other under-handed techniques that I am not yet aware of.

As someone who is stuck on dialup, I find the Auctiva listings to be obnoxious. I have to sit and wait for all the other crap that the seller has listed to load just so I can look at the one item I'm actually interested in. Many times I pass over items I might buy rather than wait for Auctiva to load.
