We recently had our Farmall "H" restored, and they got a considerable amount of paint on the tires. What is the best way to get the paint off? Is there a material that could be put on after the removal of the paint to make the tires look better?

Foam oven cleaner works and you can use soap and water to clean off the foam and keep the chemical from staying on the tire too long to cause damage. Makes old tires look great.

This may sound silly but here's my two cents worth . Take you a small orbital sander with medium grit sand paper on it . Careful not to sand your new paint and go to town on the tire . You can actually sand the rubber away to improve it's look. As for touch up afterwards go to the automotive store and tell them you want some tire black. It's a tire paint of sorts. It'll look shiny for a few days but after awhile they will look like normal again.

To all who spend many hours restoring any tractors, spend a little time before painting covering the tires with masking. Doing so will make less work in the long run. Paint on the tires ruins a good paint job, period. Any type of solvent used on tires new or old will speed up the aging process. Good luck & ttyl.

We had a tractor that the previous owner had brushed a small amounts of rim paint on the tires. We rubbed the painted areas with steel wool and that took the paint off.

I've used lacquer thinner with good results getting enamel off tires, don't know about the new catalized paints tho... Good Luck.

My experience with paint was a few years back so I might not be right on top of your problem, but if the paint is a catalized urethane enamal then you have your work cut out for you I'd try the reducer, and if that doesn't work I'd ask a body man. If it's a lacquer then the reducer used in the paint ought to take the stuff off. After cleaning I'd say check out the new generation tire cleaner/protectorants and see if there's something there that tickles your fancy. Automotive magazines run quite a few ads and there seems to be something better then Armorall on the market now. Have fun, Me
