Hey Guys I need to vent a little.
I just got off the phone for my gas credit card..
They had attached a $2.14 charge that i though may be wrong. Well... I was wrong!
When i send my payment I made the check 4 cents less of the total amount due. SOOOOO OO
they wanted to get $2.14 as a finance charge.
My question was: ARE YOU KIDDING?
The charge was dropped .
I am done venting it felt good. Thanks for letting me.
Guido.

When in my last semester of college, I owed the college 20 some cents, which was at the time less than what the postage cost to send me the bill. I thought they were kidding, but they said my diploma would not arrive until the bill was paid. I sent them a check for the bill plus .02 cents, which they sent me a check for the overpayment. I still have that check next to my diploma.

Got my .02 worth of laughter.

That was worth at least a dime.

The clerk at the DMV made a two dollar mistake on my fee, and I made out the check, the only one I had with me. When she caught it, I told her to just keep the extra two bucks and she said she had no way to make change. I told her to buy coffee and doughnuts with it, and she said she couldn't do that either. I had to drive an extra sixty mile round-trip to get another check.

Been a long time since earning a degree in accounting and then making a career in criminal justice. Been retired ten years. But,one thing I do remember is that while the books must be balanced, over and short accounts are there for that purpose.

Gotta use a little common sense on these things.

Bob

Hello Bob85355.
At one time the same thing happen that I made a check for pennies less then the full amount for my gas bill. The simply stated amount due from last month plus amount due this month. I send them the payment , end of problem.
But the card companies and the banks make millions on late fees, while the utilitie company provides a service?
HUMMMM! that can be something..... .. SERVICE!
Guido.

When daughter had her tonsils out about 1978 or 79, had really good insurance where I worked. They paid the entire bill except for $1 for a pair of paper slippers that the hospital gave her to wear around that day (insurance said that was a personal item). Hospital billed us $1 every month for about 7 months until they threatened to turn us over to collection (I let it go to see how far they would take it).

When I went in and paid it I told them how stupid it was to carry this thing on and pay the postage and the costs to send out the monthly statement.

I once got a check from my employer for $0.00. It seem that when a travel advance is equal to the amount spent , the computer kicks out a check for $0.00. I did not cash it.

I would imagine with the computers now days it won,t clear the account with a few cents short or over. So it sends an order to send a bill or refund. And if no one is checking the computer it goes in the mail. Ya know, computers never make any mistakes. LOL

James overpaid the phone bill by .02 once. Believe it or not they sent us a check for .02. It cost them 100x that to produce that check. We were flabbergasted when we got it. Never cashed it, saved it as "trophy" of sorts.

Back in the fifties my Dad was on the school board at a one room school house. He somehow made out the check 6 cents short (misread a 6 for a 0). Even back then they sent a bill for the 6 cents. Postage only was 3 cents then, but it was not a profitable move.

Gotta make the books balance.

Nancy Those people go to college for 4 yrs. to do things like that.

Guido They get by with that kind of stuff because some people would just look at the total and pay it without a question. Good on ya for challenging them on that.
