I used the 6011 in the past for everything until I discovered the 7014. The 7014 can be used for every application the 6011 can and will be stronger because of "70" psi designation. It also flows better and produces a much better bead in my opinion.

I use several different rods, depending what and where. Just plain old dirty rusty hot roll or plain cast steel. 6011,6013, in flat position and cleaned steel 7014 or 7024. Out of position, or on high tensile steel I use 7018. I plan on getting a mig welder for the light stuff like shee metal. Have burned up manny manny rolls of wire.

I agree w/ Jeff. A 6011 1/8" rod is all I use on my AC buzz box. The nice thing about the 6011's is the metal does not need to be very clean, which is ideal for repairing mower decks and implements. Just my thoughts

Brand name "Alloy Rods" has what they call the "E-6013LV" The "LV" stands for Low Voltage which is common with the small buzz box welders like you have. Dad has one of these Linc 225 AC machines and these rods work great on it, know for fact, have used them.

Some of things about running these LV rods. 1- for 3/32" diameter, run at 75 amp setting.
2- for 1/8" diameter, run at 115 amp setting.
3- Hold a tight arc, start acr and drop rod right onto surface and drag the rod against the work so that you actually feel the flux touching the work. If you lift the rod and strech the arc, you'll get slag inclusion. Holding a tight arc will produce a beautiful weld bead that is strong and clean. Don't force the rods, let them burn on their own. Weave side to side only, not front to back like you would with a 6011 on DC.

These rods cost a bit more, about $.30 per pound, than regular 6013's but will make welding easy and mcuh nicer with the buzz box.

lincoln has a low hydrogen rod that runs on a/c. called LH-73. as oppposed to the more common LH-70. this rod will also run on dc with the advantage of restriking easily, for tack welding.
