I decided to open up the drain on my compressor to let whatever water and condensation out, and the thing wouldnt let anything out. I relaesed all the air, and reached under there and turned the screw one way, nothing, then all the way the other way, still nothing. Wile i was doing this, there was about 10-20 psi in there still (i opened the valve) but no air coming out. I came up when all the air was out, and turned it on, it gained pressure. I let the pressure out, then turned the screw all the way the other way, then it still gained pressure. What giveS???

Didn't you just buy this compressor new a few months back?

If so return it and have them fix it or replace it. You paid good money for it, they need to stand behind it.

Water in the tank can freeze, if it's cold out-
side, and ice can block the drain.

I am with Bob Pa. -My valve on the sears air compressor was plugged up. Finally drilled it out- and replaced. Now I drain every time I use it. I knew it was supposed to be drained - but did not take the time to do it!!!

I drain mine every evening when I am all done, also when I first start it up I leave the drain open for a 1/2 minute or so and see how much more I get out. I also let the air regulator leak a tad, would be surprised at the amount of water you get when it runs a lot.

Lanse, Once my friend wanted to do some painting on his tractors. I said we better drain the compressor tank to remove any water. To make a long story short, I took the valve clear out and still no air came out. I poked a screw driver in there and all at once it blew the screw driver out of my hand and what seemed like 5 gal of stinky water blew all over me. I don't think he must have ever drained it before and valve hole must have been full of rust. I learned my lesson that day.

Lanse I believe I would do as Jeremy suggested, then you troubles are over for good. I did this to all of mine at home and work and it makes it easier to drain if you use it a lot.

I went through 3 valves before I figured out that they where crap. Mine done the oppisite and leaked air. I installed a 90, 6" of pipe, and a 1/4 turn ball valve and not had a bit of trouble scince.

You do not need to make these stupid comments, he is a young man, trying to learn, at least he has enough common sense to ask before he breaks something and he needs to be commended, not ridiculed.

If you have an old copper and brass automotive radiater the drain petcocks are the same as what you have on your compressor. I've replaced mine three times. A good hardware store or Home De pot should have replacements.
And remember to drain the tank after every use.

yeah I had to replace the drain valve on my noisy Craftsman AC.

on mine the little cheap handle stripped out and would not open the valve.

id try cleaning the drain cock with a stiff wire ,you may have to remove it to clean it if its still clogged.when its right, you just barly crack it so the water can drip out, open it all the way at once and it blows the water up inside the tank,, just like on truck airbrake tanks. lucas
