I accidently posted in the tractor forum. I have a Karcher HDS950 pressure washer that just hums when turned on. I put a new capacitator on and no luck. Would any one know how to test the German made motor?

Fella asked me one: "Do you know why it hums?"

"No" ===== ===

"Because it doesn't know the words".

Other than that, it sounds like you need a new washer. Repairing it will probabl cost as much as a new one.

Any time an electric motor just hums, it generally means that what ever it's turning is seized, in this case, I'll bet that it's the water pump that is seized. I'll also bet that there's nothing wrong with the motor itself.

I disconnected the pump and fan but the motor still hums.

Ok, now I don't know. I'd say the capacitor but you already replaced it. Can you grab the shaft and carefully give a spin as it's trying to start...might tell you if one of the bearings on the rotor ends is seizing up.

I tried to spin the shaft with electric on.
It just hummed and seemed to be drawing a lot of current and the shaft really locked up.

check the rear and front bearings....a good bearing place will fix you up if one or both are bad.
