Having finally been granted approval to purchase a rotary hammer, I narrowed it down to these 2 makes in the $200.00 range

Any opinions/ experience out there on the comparative quality of these two brands.

I'm looking at the Bosch Bulldog or Mikita's HR2455 equivalent.

Both are 1" SDS chucks with 7+ amp motors. I'll be drilling into fieldstone a few inches deep, 3/8 to 7/8" hole diameter.

Thanks guys.....

I have makitas for the buisness, have used boschs, milwaukee, dewalt, hilti, and others. Stay away from dewalt, not so good once older. The makita and bosch are good drills

I've had the bad habit of construction since I was in the sixth grade, and now I'm fifty eight. I have owned many old mills, DeWalt, Skill, and I call my Bosch the best tool I have ever owned. I gave the local Lumber yard $82.00 for having it shipped from a neighboring town. I found the Fastenall Prarie Du Chine lable on the box. I shop at Fastenal all the time, but I just had a friend pick one up while he was at the local lumber yard. Yet I'm tickled to death with it. I simply yell at the guys if they push down on it, as it will drill faster if you use ...only ...the weight of the drill. It was hard for me to get used to it as I have many bad habits. Like I said before I simply think it is indeed the best I have ever owned by far. I have only used it for two years so keep that in mind, and probably have drilled less that three thousand holes give or take. The SDS bits I have are from different brand names, and they have improved them over the last twenty years. We used to wear bits out right and left, now I feel I get my money's worth .

Ive got the Bosch. Had it about 10 years now and like it real well. Install many hand rails so it gets used much. had the variable speed go out once. Other then that no problems.

The Bulldog gets rave ratings on the FineHomebuilding forum. Wouldn't know myself as I bought Hilti.

Doesn't sound like very difficult drilling.
