I recently purchased a display model of a new Ryobi 18", 40cc saw, Model 10532. There was no box, case, manual, gas cap or chain, so it was heavily discounted. I'm having trouble identifing the chain size which I had seen listed as 62 links, .050, .375 pitch. But a dealer says its a .325 pitch, which he doesn't have. Can someone confirm the pitch and possibly have an Oregon or other chain part number?

I planned on getting the chain localy, so I called the factory parts department only about the gas cap. It sells for 84�. The shipping is $8. I'm afraid to ask about the manual and chain!

just purchased ryobi 18in 40cc chain saw and the operator"s manual does not say anything about using synthetic 2-cycle oil, but included is a bottle of synthetic 2-cycle oil mix.

can anyone tell me if synthetic oil mix has to be used or can regular 2-cycle oil mix be used.

any good servicing dealer has a little dayglow orange plastic square measuring guage, cost $3.00, that will tell you the pitch & guage of any common chain. Dealer thought it was .325 pitch cause that's common on firewood saws. I'm with Guido, its 3/8ths pitch; but there are 2 3/8ths pitches, full 3/8ths & lo-pro 3/8ths. Your dealer doesn't stock .325 so he's obviously not very experienced. It is an extremely common size, much in demand. Go to a good dealer.

It's a retired dealer on eBay. Perhaps he no longer remembers the details well, but see my post below for the chains he offers. That measuring device sounds interesting.

Does Ryobi still have a parts problem?

I bought an almost new Ryobi radial arm saw on a garage sale once, only a couple of years old. It had a plastic part in the handle broken. I bought it cheap and figured since it was a Ryobi there wouldn't be any problem getting parts. Guess what? The part was already discontinued and not one single warehouse anywhere had one.

I haven't figured out yet what to do with it. I don't want to jerry rig something and wind up injuring myself or someone else. Guess the guy that sold it cheap knew what he was doing.

The broken part may be made of ABS, same as some plastic pipe and other things. See if black ABS cement works on it. If it does make your own part.

I guess it could be that somebody at the store put the wrong chain on it. Take a caliper and measure the center distance between three of the link pins and divide by two to get the pitch. If it is 3/4 inch between the first and third link pin then dividing by two would give you the 0.375" pitch. If you change the pitch you should put a new sprocket on to match. They are cheap at about $6.

Also measure the groove width in the bar as they may have changed the bar and chain. Most bars have the chain type embossed on the side.

See my original post. It's a brand new saw, missing the gas cap and chain. I placed a bid on eBay for a lot of two new chains, $4.99. Same specs as you and I found. Here's the number: 360037530853. Check it out, maybe he has something you can use; the price is right.

Hello slowpoke.
I got a gas cap for a ryobi weed wacker at home depot or lowes. You should look there first.Those are fast moving parts and would be in stock. The chain sound like a standard 3/8 pitch.
Againg look at the depot or lowes. Guido.

My nearest Home Depot does not carry any chainsaw parts except for bars, chains and oil.
