A friend gave me a blackhawk porto-power tool. It is old and dirty. The hose looks cracked. The case is metal and round at one end. It has no manual. Can anyone tell me if this tool might be useful. I wonder where to get a new hose? How old is something like this? I'll take pics and post asap

I had the whole bending kit (BlackHawk) and used it mostly on a 10" H beam fixture to press in stub ends for hog feeders. I was at a sale a few years ago and one came up for bid and I ran it up to $65...and the guy bidding against me commenced to cussin and raisin 7734 and he left the sale. The next item up was another just like it only older (but workable) and I bought it for $20. He must have only had $60 but if he had hung around, he coulda had the next best one and had money to spare. One of 'em had a small 2" cylinder with it that only pushed about a half inch. I haven't used that one. ohfred

You can't just use any hydraulic hose !!!!! !!!!
depending on the model, the pump can push up to
10,000 psi, YES, Ten Thousand pounds per sq inch,
(depends also upon your strength pushing the
handle) You MUST use a replacement hose made
specially for Porto-Powers. The correct hose can
be ordered from a hydraulic equipment dealer,
possibly those who sell auto body shop equipment.
NH, Northern Hydraulic sells these, probably has
hoses.Don't risk life/eyes with wrong hose!

I posted a photo of the now cleaned-up unit under"help identify".I told the man who gave me this unit I would ask around here and see if anyone had an idea how old this might be.I wonder if I need to add hydraulic oil to this ?

you need to worry about the galvanized water pipe coupling. It will get you hurt, it is only rated for about 200 psi or so. Replace it with a fitting rated for the 10,000 psi the pump is capable of.

blackhawk makes high quality stuff. you done good. there are a number of accesories available for them. prolly you have either a 4 ton or 10 ton. when i get to the shop tomorrow, i'll sanp a couple pics of our 2 with the accesories. great for pulling, pushing, bending, straightening, once you get the hang of it, you wont know how you got along without one!!

Does it have the ends that thread on instead of snap together like the new stuff ? Dad bought one and it has all the attachments and it even had a small press frame on a roll around bench. I wasn't sure we would use it as we allready had a press. Well it has come in very handy. Best thing I did was to buy a gear puller attachment made by OTC that threads on the end. That hyd. puller sure is the way to go !

It's a body shop tool to true up bent steel. Door jambs, window frames, minor frame distortions, etc. Any hyd shop should be able to fix the hose using the ends.

You got a very usefull tool....what it realy is a remote hydrolic jack..... you put the cyl. in where you need it.....and do the jacking at the other end of the hose....you can lay them down or stand them up.....

How many times in your life have you layed a jack on its side and it move out a couple times amd quit..... well your new one will keep on..... Don
