Chainsaw stalls out....

Recently had a tree get knocked down from high wind, pulled out my chainsaw, a Homelite XL 12 which had been sitting idle for the last few years, to take care of business. Put in new fuel (gas / oil mix) and got it started..... . :-). Appears to idle fine, but when I go to cut and throttle some gas, it stalls out. One pull and it cranks right back up. My next step is to clean the carburator...looking for a diagram. Any other suggestions other than letting the tree rot in place... :-).

Thanks.

I'm in Berkeley County, outside Summerville. We experienced some high winds in my area, but not what I saw you had to deal with. Hope you made out okay!!

Sometimes just spraying the inside of the carb with choke and carb cleaner does the trick. My father in Law brought home an old XL that had not been run in years and would not start. That is all it took.

You might open the high speed jet 1/2 turn, see if that will get you running. That is a little trick that will work sometime if you have one that will not run, but stumble on acceloration.

roy, check the muffler. mud duabers love to plug them up. be sure to take it all the way apart, the screen needs a small brush to clean it good.

Chances are it's a clogged fuel filter, collased/deteriortated fuel line or varnished carb not letting emough fuel flow. Also possible the vaccum ports are clogged enough to not let the diaphram work. A dried out diaphram will do that too.

Carb kit, fuel line and filter should fix it.
