Thanks to all the guys that offered tips especially Phil. Got off my lazy butt and Googled" Capacitor start motor schematics" and got the link below.

Since the motor died while it was running and I found that the run cap is in parallel with the start cap until the centrifrugal contact drops out, I thought maybe I should go back and check the run cap, 1.7 ohms. I thought I checked it back on the weekend, but I guess not.

It's a 30 uf 250 volt and searching the net the smallest volt I can find is 370. There's about a $30 difference between the two. Do you you think Delta Machinery is cheap? It's their dust collector.

The higher the voltage rating on the cap the better. A borderline voltage cap will blow even if it is new.

Did you find the EXACT diagram for your motor? With a RUN capacitor THAT large (in value) it sounds to me like a PSC (permanent split capacitor) motor, which would NOT have a centrifugal start switch.

IF it REALLY is a capacitor start motor, WITH a starting switch, the motor should WITHOUT the run capacitor (for testing).

If IS a capacitor-start motor, and it DOESN'T run with the "bad" run capacitor out of the circuit, something ELSE is wrong. (VERY LIKELY.)

If you REALLY need that capacitor, better have a look at Grainger's...

Motor Run Capacitor, MFD Rating 30, Voltage 370, 60/50 Hz, Round, Dia 2 In, Height 2 7/8 In, Width 2 In, 1/4 In Male Terminals, Temp Range -40 to 69 C
Grainger Item # 2GU25 Price (ea.) $10.32
Brand DAYTON

Thanks Bob. I does run, even starts faster with the vertual short out of the circuit. Like I mentioned in my earlier post I'm an EE. Just forgot motor theory after 30 yrs. of only designing pulse width modulated controllers for syncronous motors. My AC theory is very rusty.
