Try this, I've had good luck with it. found it at www.nicadbatteryfix.com Fixed 3 of my old dewalt 18v batteries. Its definitaly worth the $3.99

Well, it's worked for me now for about 3 months {actually only 2 of the 3, one is dying I think}. I believe the crystaline effect theory is a believable one. All I can do is talk from what I've seen and done.

Hey, it saved me from spending over $100 on 3 batteries, and it only cost $3.99! If my batteries quite working tommorow, I'll still be a happy costumer. :)

Hello NRV.
Discharging the nicads with a resistor or an outomotive bulb. discharge the battery to the point that when you take the load off the voltage stays at zero or millivolt.
They will charge better that way.
All of mine have a solid wire across then after they were discharged. When I need them I take the wire of and charged them. $80 a pack I have since the mid 80'S Still good!.

I have been flashing ni-cads for years and it usually seems to work for a few days or weeks but I have never seen one work long time. It is at best just temporary. Also be very careful zapping those ni cads as I had one blow up and just miss hitting me. Wear safety glasses when zapping!

Only part I remember is to totally discharge batt before I think it was called "flashing".

So, are you saying that you have tried the method posted earlier by Meekrob? I was going to try his suggestion on some older 12V Dewalt batteries that I had given up on... I guess if that does not work, we'll see then, but it seems like the underlying theories might be the same.

I would definitaly NOT try this with a welder, seems dangerous using that many amps.

I have also heard of doing this with a car battery, but this guide I speak about shows how to do it with a "good" nicd battery

Only way to rejuvenate a battery. Is to take it back to Exide. Melt the lead plates down, mold new plates, install in a new housing and fill with fresh acid.

The process I guess is like "jump" starting a car battery.

Supposedly there is crystals in nicd batteries that grow over time, from over charging, and naturally. The bigger the crystals get, the less storage capacity the cells have.

The idea is to break up those crystals with a jolt of energy.

I e-mailed the guy before I bought the guide, and he sent me link with over 1000 positive feedbacks from ebay. Looked legit to me, so I tried it.

Nicad batteries supposedly grow hairs that short the cells. The problem is that if 1 out of 10 cells in a series circuit dies the whole pack is useless.Look for tool battery pack that you can open, most are glued shut.If you can open the pak you can check the voltage of each cell and replace the dud.I find some that have reversed polarity.Ridgid tools come with a warranty that promises free batteries as long as you own the tool.Ridgid drills are made in China, battery contacts look weak.

I looked everywhere for "free" info that actually worked before buying this, None of it worked like this did. There's some good tips and tricks in the guide also, stuff I never thought of.

Just thought I would post the link, maybe it can help some others out there.
