1981 Cub Cadet 682 Hydro w/ KT17S Series II (17HP) engine. Question 1 of 2: Bottom of differential (rear?) is wet w/ fluid. How do I check fluid level, possibly fix problem and refill? Question 2 of 2: I can't loosen nut to remove a mower blade because the blade rotates on the shaft when rotation blocked against gang housing and using breaker bar and socket to attempt to loosen blade nut. Thanks in advance!

Thank you guys! Yes, I was using a wood jam to secure the blade and found the nut and shaft slipping w/out loosening. (then I stepped on my trifocals worsening the whole failure!) Don't have an impact wrench or a trailer to get it to a shop. I was able to remove the other two blades and, of course, three was not a charm. I guess it's pretty clear that I have not gotten very mechanical w/ my wonderful old machine, how difficult is taking off the mower gang? Oh, and I have searched the Inet and found a lot on the mower but not a thing on the mower gang. Do you guy's know where I might find an owners manual/maintenance/parts manual for the mower deck? Thanks again, very much !!!

Can you jam a short 2X4 between the deck and blade? Also look close to see if there is a place to put a wrench on the shaft. Lastly, it is quite possible it has a left hand thread so the blade doesn't come loose. You might have been putting it tighter.

I found out, too, that an impact wrench works

I'd try an impact wrench on the mower blade.
