I've got one of these that is real old and a lot tougher. Great for recycling pallets and other used wood.

Does home-growed count? One of the handiest tools I have(gettin older&infirmer)is a three foot piece of 1/2 plastic pipe with a cow magnet hot water swaged into one end.Great fer retrievin them dropped washers, nuts, screws, tools. And smaller diameter than most storebought "retrievers" allows it to get under and between things.Magnet was free from my butcher and pipe was from dumpster.

cow magnet pushed into garden hose works great to reach something dropped down a long ways. We use them in the construction business to pick up tools guys drop down in concrete wall forms. We carry a 8' lenght behind seat of each truck.

It cuts the outer edge off a grinding disk (auto body). I have not found it to be any more effective than an old tin snips.

Yup, we've had one in the body shop for 20 years. It seldom gets used.
