Simple day...

Though not a "fine craftsman" I putter with wood,metal,plastics etc.Decided the other day to just have a"Simple Day" and for the day not use any unecessary technology,ie:power tools,high tech tools etc.Got thru the day fine,renewed aquaintances w/brace and bits,simple tinners snips,couple monkey wrenches,common single bit screwdrivers,Yankee drill,only open end wrenches,folding rule,sanding block,rasps,even the ole propane torch and soldering copper.Finished 4-5 little ongoing projects.Gives a man insight into how far we've come from a stick and a rock for gettin things done,and makes you wonder a bit,how out forbearers accomplished all they did,with what they had.

Our house used to belong to the town carpenter/cabinet maker. I've fornd a couple of planes that are for making moulding. Could you imagine getting almost done with a 2 meter piece and it breaking? They still teach the kids in framing school the old way of knotching and using wooden pegs with hand tools before they teach the modern stuff w/ power tools.

Back then they weren't in this hurry up, want it right now world. A whole lot of attitudes would change if we just slowed down a bit.

Well the old tools are cheaper to use. No electricity or anything to run.
You learn a bit more craftsmanship and patience as well.
I like a good sharp chisel or plane....

You wonder how they did many things. But then that is why they had many children at times. To help keep things going around the farms.
As for tools...about all one can really say. Some invented tools to work with and cut corners. Some did the hard way. Just glad I am not back in those times. Like my life a bit easier at times. lol well as easy as I can get it. *S
